The police chief of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, was drunk in public and was inebrier on Monday night when he was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh police for drunk driving, police sources said.
The incident took place on Sunday night, when the Kanpur police superintendent was travelling in a taxi, sources said, adding that he was drunk when he reached Kanpur’s Mughalpur police station and lodged a complaint against the police commissioner.
“The accused was in a bad condition on Monday morning when he complained to the police station about his alleged drunk driving and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Later, he was admitted to Kanpur hospital for further treatment,” said police sources.
Police said the accused’s brother, Anil, has also lodged a case against him.
A few hours after the incident, Kanpur district police commissioner Satyapal Singh was arrested from a hotel by Kanpur railway station police, sources added.
Police also registered a case under Section 304 (criminal intimidation) of IPC for the incident.
