Why is the Tampa Bay Times reporting on the death of Jacksonville Police Officer David Jackson Jr.? July 1, 2021 July 1, 2021 admin

By LAUREN PETROVICH, Associated PressThe Tampa Bay, Florida, newspaper the Tampa Tribune is reporting on a controversial fatal police shooting of a mentally ill man by an officer who was a veteran of the St. Petersburg Police Department.

Tulsa Tribune reported on Friday that a video of the incident has been viewed more than 3 million times on Facebook.

The Tampa Tribune report on the fatal shooting of David Jackson III was posted on its Facebook page late Thursday night.

The Tampa Tribune said that it is not the first time that the paper has reported on the story.

Jackson’s family has criticized the paper for not revealing that Jackson was mentally ill at the time of the shooting.

A lawsuit filed by the Jackson family last week alleges the paper was negligent in not disclosing the incident until after it was published in the paper.

The video shows a confrontation between Jackson and a white man.

Jackson repeatedly calls the man a “f—ing c—.”

The man repeatedly asks Jackson to stop using force.

Jackson then begins to fire his gun at the man.

Tyrone Stapleton, the lawyer for Jackson’s family, said he is still awaiting a response from the newspaper about the video.

The Associated Press has reached out to the Tampa Police Department for comment on the report.

The St. Pete Times reported that a man named David Johnson had mental illness.

The newspaper said the police department is investigating whether there was a link between the officer who shot Jackson and Johnson.
