Spokane, Washington – The former mayor of Spokane, who is facing corruption charges, is now a convicted felon.

The Spokane City Council passed a resolution Wednesday morning recognizing the former mayor as the first and only convicted felon elected to the city’s top elected position.

Councilman Chris Toth, who defeated former Spokane Mayor Dan LeBlanc in the November election, has agreed to forfeit his seat in 2018.

LeBlanco was arrested and charged with bribery and corruption in May of this year.

He pleaded not guilty and was sentenced to two years in jail.

In the meantime, Toth has been barred from working in the City Council.

In June, the Spokane City Attorney’s Office announced that Toth had been indicted on a misdemeanor count of conspiracy to commit bribery.

Toth was arrested in July and charged in November with bribery.

In February, the Washington Attorney General’s office also charged Toth with bribery, and the charges were later dismissed by the state.

Leblanco has pleaded not charged.

He was also the city councilman charged with conspiracy to bribe a state lawmaker in October.

The charges were dropped in January.
